Sixth Annual Coaches Clinic

The purpose of the Coaches Clinic is to introduce the new events for the 1999 Science Olympiad and to help coaches develop a better understanding of all the events along with strategies for their classroom implementation.  The clinic workshops will be conducted by national event coordinators or experts in the field.

The Holiday Inn is located at the southwest junction of Interstate I-94 and Cline Avenue, approximately one mile south of Morton H.S. AmeriHost Inn is located at the southeast junction of Interstate I-94 and Indianapolis Blvd.  It is approximately two miles from Morton H.S., the conference location.  Participants must make their own hotel reservations.

Activities: The conference will consist of a Thursday evening dinner at Morton High School at 5:30 p.m.  Dr. Gerard Putz and Jack Cairns, national co-directors, will discuss new events and changes that have occurred to previous events for the 1999 competition.  There will also be a series of hands-on workshops at 7:00 and 8:00 p.m.

Friday activities will start with a breakfast at Morton High School from 7:00 until 8:00 a.m.  This will be followed by twelve breakout sessions at six different time slots for a total of 72 different sessions.  One workshop will focus on how to organize a Science Olympiad team for newcomers to the Science Olympiad.  There will also be a 25 minute break at mid-morning where refreshments will be served and a one hour lunch.  Each workshop session will be conducted by an expert in Science Olympiad; the majority of these presenters are currently event coordinators for the national tournament.  The instructors will include some of the most outstanding and successful individuals associated with the Science Olympiad program.  The following have been invited to participate:

Registration: Registration is limited to 400 participants; therefore, it is imperative that you register early to ensure participation in the conference.  For the past three years we could not accommodate all of the people who wanted to attend, and many applicants were refused.  Selection will be on a first-come/first-served basis, and participants may attend the workshop sessions of their choice.  All participants will be notified regarding their selection status.  Registration, which includes access to all workshops, the Thursday evening dinner, Friday's breakfast, mid-morning snack, and lunch, is $65.00.  All participants will receive extensive handouts, the 1999 Coaches Manual and Rules, a Science Olympiad tote bag, a Science Olympiad Coaches Clinic tee-shirt, and a commemorative mug.
