Science Olympiad Supports the DuPont Challenge
The DuPont Challenge Science Essay Competition encouraged students in Grades 6-12 to get to the edge of scientific discovery by writing about a technological or scientific development on the topics of food, energy, protection or innovation. Essays were submitted until 2/5/16 and winners were announced in April 2016. Grand prize winners receive cash awards plus expenses-paid trips to Orlando! Many past winners have come from the Science Olympiad family. The last year of the DuPont Challenge Science Essay Competition for all grades was 2016.
DuPont and Science Olympiad have enjoyed a lasting 30+ year partnership in pursuit of increasing student and teacher interest in science education, with DuPont hosting the 2002 and 2008 Science Olympiad National Tournaments at The University of Delaware and The George Washington University in Washington, DC. At the 2014 DuPont Excellence in Teaching, Partnerships and Engineering Dinner in Boston, DuPont executives PJ Simon and Peggy Vavalla presented Dr. Gerard and Sharon Putz of Science Olympiad with a special award for 30 Years of Partnership. DuPont and DuPont Pioneer continue to support Science Olympiad events like Cell Biology, Bio-Process Lab and Green Generation that expand student understanding of biotechnology, ecology and agricultural science.
