New Resources from NOAA and Science Olympiad
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has teamed up with Science Olympiad to provide in-depth and up-to-date resources for Meteorology and Dynamic Planet. As a feature on their education website, NOAA has created a dedicated page for Science Olympiad with multimedia links, lessons, activities, real-world data and career profiles. Each year, NOAA (with support from the National Marine Sanctuary Foundation) acts as the official sponsor for the Meteorology event, providing teacher training, educational resources and multimedia content development.
At the 2012 Science Olympiad Summer Institute, NOAA's Sarah Yue and Ken Waters, Warning Coordination Meteorologist from the Phoenix National Weather Service (NWS) Office, demonstrated a tethered weather balloon, led teachers in field-testing their homemade anemometers and discussed how weather data is collected and analyzed.
